WHY VISIT
Why Visit Turkey?
Turkey straddles Europe and Asia, and that in-between position is the whole story. Istanbul sits on both continents, with a skyline shaped by Byzantine domes and Ottoman minarets. Head inland and the landscape turns just as dramatic: the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia, the white terraces of Pamukkale, and Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Mediterranean.
A private tour is what makes that range manageable. Your own guide and driver move at your pace between Istanbul’s Old City, the Aegean coast and the Anatolian interior, with domestic flights, transfers and site visits planned for you.

The city on two continents. Visit Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, then lose an afternoon in the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market.
The Bosphorus
Europe and Asia from the water
The strait that divides Istanbul and links the Black Sea to the Marmara. A boat cruise passes palaces, mosques and old wooden mansions on both shores.
Cappadocia
Fairy chimneys and sunrise balloons
A surreal landscape of rock formations, cave dwellings and underground cities in Central Anatolia. Sunrise balloon rides here are world renowned.
Ephesus
The Library of Celsus and the Grand Theater
One of the best-preserved ancient Roman cities in the Mediterranean, with the Library of Celsus, the Grand Theater and the site of the Temple of Artemis.
Pamukkale
The “Cotton Castle” terraces
A UNESCO World Heritage site known for dazzling white travertine terraces formed by mineral-rich thermal waters. You can bathe in the warm pools.
Antalya
Old Kaleiçi and the Mediterranean coast
A Mediterranean port city with a historic old quarter, set against the Taurus mountains. A stop on several of our longer routes.
Göbeklitepe
A 12,000-year-old temple complex
An archaeological site in southeastern Turkey, considered the world’s oldest known temple complex and older than Stonehenge and the pyramids.
Konya and Central Anatolia
Rumi and the Whirling Dervishes
The city associated with Rumi and the Mevlevi Order. It is the best place to see the Sema ceremony, the whirling dervishes’ spiritual dance.

Turkey Travel Guide
APRIL – MAY, SEPT – OCT
Shoulder Season
Mild temperatures across Istanbul, the Aegean coast and Cappadocia, with thinner crowds at sites like Ephesus. For many travelers this is the most comfortable window.
JUNE – AUGUST
Peak Season
Hot, especially inland and along the Aegean coast, and the busiest months at Ephesus, Pamukkale and in Istanbul’s Old City. Book hotels and guides well ahead.
NOV – MARCH
Off-Season
Quiet, with occasional snow in Cappadocia that gives a very different look to the landscape. Better suited to Istanbul and museum-heavy routes than to coastal stops.

LANGUAGE
Turkish. English is common in tourist areas.
Are Turkey private tours customizable?
Yes. You choose the cities and sites to include and how the days are paced, and a specialist shapes the full route around your interests, whether that is history, food, or Cappadocia.
How many days do I need for a private Turkey tour?
Istanbul on its own works well in 2 to 3 days. Our 8-day Highlights of Turkey adds Cappadocia and Ephesus, and 10 to 12 days lets you add the Aegean coast or Bodrum. Our 15 and 16 day tours cover most of the country, including Eastern Anatolia.
What is included in a private Turkey tour?
A private licensed guide, a private vehicle and driver, hotel accommodation, admission fees and all transfers, plus domestic flights on itineraries that use them. See the What’s Included section above for the full breakdown.
Which hotels do you use?
Highlights of Turkey uses Sultanhan Boutique Hotel in Istanbul, Argos Cave Boutique Hotel in Cappadocia and Hotel Charisma in Kuşadası. Other routes use hotels suited to each region, and you can see more on our Turkey hotels page.
Can I combine Turkey with Croatia or the Balkans?
Yes, through the same operator and a single point of contact. Turkey and the Balkans are usually planned as two legs of one trip, with a flight between them.
What is the best time to visit Turkey?
April through May and September through October offer mild weather with fewer crowds than June to August. See the Turkey Travel Guide section above for a seasonal breakdown.
Is the hot air balloon flight in Cappadocia included?
Balloon flights are not part of the standard inclusions listed on our itinerary pages. If you want one, tell us when you plan your trip and we will confirm availability and price for your dates.
Do I need a visa to visit Turkey?
It depends on your passport. Many visitors need an e-Visa applied for online before travel, while some nationalities are exempt for short stays. Check the official Turkish e-Visa website for your passport before you book.
Is Turkey safe for private travel?
Turkey is a long-established tourist destination, and on a private tour you travel with a licensed guide and your own driver for the whole itinerary. Conditions vary by region and change over time, so check your own government’s current travel advice before booking, and we are happy to talk through any route.
How much does a private Turkey tour cost?
Our itineraries start at 70 USD per person for a one-day Istanbul tour and go up to 3,850 USD per person for the 16-day Marvels of Eastern Turkey. Final pricing depends on season, group size and hotel category.
