THE ESSENTIALS

What Is a Gulet, and What Is the Blue Voyage?

A gulet is a traditional wooden sailing vessel, though most now also have powerful engines, that originated on the southwestern coast of Turkey, in towns like Bodrum and Marmaris. Gulets are designed for comfort and leisure, with spacious decks and comfortable cabins, and usually come with a professional crew of captain, chef and deckhands.

The Blue Voyage is a recreational cruise along the Turkish Riviera, on the Aegean and Mediterranean coast. It sails to secluded bays, ancient ruins and small fishing villages that are often inaccessible by road, and it often extends to nearby Greek islands.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a gulet yacht charter in Turkey?

A gulet is a traditional wooden sailing boat built on Turkey’s southwestern coast, with broad decks for lounging and comfortable cabins below. A charter gives you the whole boat and its crew for a private cruise along the coast.

Yes, the gulet is chartered for your group alone, with a custom route planned around the bays, beaches, and sites you want to reach. Families get an intimate experience both on board and ashore.

A charter includes the gulet and a professional crew, usually a captain, chef, and deckhands who handle the sailing, cooking, and daily service. Meals often use fresh local ingredients and are served outdoors on the aft deck.

Routes follow the Turkish Riviera along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, calling at secluded bays, ancient ruins, and small fishing villages that roads cannot reach. Many cruises also extend to nearby Greek islands.

It depends on the boat, since modern gulets run from about 15 to 55 meters and carry anything from a single family to a larger group. The team can advise which size suits your party best.

Our two gulet itineraries start at 3,390 USD per person for the 12-day Treasures of Turkey, with 4 nights aboard, and 3,750 USD per person for the 15-day Turkish Delight, with 7 nights aboard. A gulet-only charter is quoted on request.

International flights, customary tips for guides and drivers, and travel insurance and visas. See the What’s Included section above for the full breakdown.

Blue Voyage cruises often extend to nearby Greek islands. Tell us where you want to sail and we will plan the route with you.

May to June and September to October are warm enough to swim with fewer boats at anchor. See the Gulet Cruise Travel Guide section above for a seasonal breakdown.
